Correct differential and transmission lubrication requires products that will satisfy a wide range of service conditions. However, the wide variation of transmission types used in vehicles means a wide selection of gear oils is necessary to avoid jeopardising elements of performance and protection. The high street oil companies supply few lubricant choices to ease sales and distribution. Fully synthetic polyol ester based Red Line gear oils are designed to provide the maximum performance in both power transfer and fuel economy with the maximum in gear tooth and bearing protection. To do this a wide range of lubricants is necessary. Full technical support and advice is available through the contact numbers below. High temperatures cause breakdown of mineral based oils, forming insoluble sludge or varnish which can plug bearing cages and cause oil starvation to the bearing surfaces; tooth contact zone temperature can be several hundred degrees higher than the bulk oil temperature. At 1500C Red Line® 75W90 has twice the oil film thickness of a mineral 80W90 oil. Cold temperatures can be as damaging to differentials and transmissions as sustained high temperature use. Rapid oil flow to the bearings and adequate lubrication splash to the gear teeth are critical to prevent component fatigue and premature failure. At -25’C an SAE 90 gear oil will take more than 5 minutes to flow to the bearings, while Red Line® 75W90 requires only 1 second. Friction reduction giving increased power transfer and reduction in temperature is another benefit of Red Line® gear oil. Up to 2’12 % improvement in geartrain efficiency can be measured, leading to fuel economy and powertrain longevity. This feature has allowed Red Line® to establish a reputation in motor racing as providing the best power and greatest equipment durability of any lubricant available. Corrosion protection is ensured with polyol ester based Red Liner gear oil. Many gear oils contain extreme pressure additives which are corrosive to the brass and copper used in syncromesh hubs and bushings. Red Liner gear oil will prevent rusting and corrosion even in the presence of water. PRODUCT APPLICATION 75W90 Gear Oil - preferred product in nearly all car and light truck differentials, both conventional and limited slip. Not suitable for synchromesh gearbox use, as the extreme slipperiness can cause gear clash. Exceeds API GL-5. 75W90NS - as 75W90 but friction modified to allow use with both copper and steel synchros. This facet also uprates limited slip differential operation. 75W90NS and 70W90, individually or mixed together can thus be used to fine tune LSDs for weather and track conditions. 80W 140 Gear Oil - commercial vehicle use and some racing applications where excess oil ‘throw off may occur. Generally 0.5% less efficient than 75W90. Can also be used in differentials where excessive noise is a problem or chattering limited slip units. Not suitable for use in synchromesh gearboxes due to the extreme slipperiness. Exceeds API GL-5 SuperLight Gear Oil - a 70W/75W GL-5 gear oil with the viscosity lower than an ATF. Ideal for dog boxes and differentials with lower power throughputs or maximum power / LightWeight Gear Oil - Lola F3000 gearbox oil - a 75W/80W GL-5 gear oil for dog boxes and differentials which require 80W GL-5 oils. Excellent replacement for 75W90 oils in competition. MTLTM - Manual TransmissionlTransaxle Lubricant. A 75W80W GL-4 gear oil designed for manual transmissions which require 75W, 80W, motor oil or ATFs. Low temperature shiftability equal to an ATF, but will not thin out or shear at high temperatures. Ideal for use with copper containing synchronisers. MT 90 - Manual Transmission / Transaxle Lubricant. A 75W90 GL-4 gear oil for manual transmissions with copper containing synchronisers. Same chemistry as MTLT~ but a 75w90 weight oil meeting GL-4 recommendations. SuperLightweight ShockProof M - an EP9O gear oil with the viscosity rating lower than ATF. The lubricant contains a suspension of solid microscopic particles as an extreme pressure agent. Magnificent wear and film strength. Ideal for motorcycle and kart use. Lightweight ShockProof - an EP14O gear oil with the internal friction of atypical ATF. Chemistry similar to SuperLightweight ShockProof Heavyweight ShockProofM - an EP250 gear oil with the viscosity rating of an SAE 40 weight engine oil. Chemistry similar to SuperLightweight ShockProoftM D4 ATE Synthetic ATF for very latest DexronTM or MercontM recommended boxes. Optimal temperature is 400C higher than mineral equivalent for better torque converter efficiency. Wear protection of a GL-4 oil. Perfect for heavily loaded vehicles with both automatic gearboxes and manual transaxles. High temperature operation without varnishing valves and clutches. Racing ATE - synthetic ATE for automatic and manual transmissions which need a TYPE-F ATF. This product contains no slipperiness additives, producing faster shifts and quicker lock-up. Enhanced extreme pressure protection provides five times the film strength of petroleum based ATFs. LSD Friction Modifier / Break In Additive - a slipperiness additive to modify the performance of friction LSDs and aid differential break-in. May be used with other gear oils.
